Prison Island is also known as Changuu Island, it is a small Island located 5.6 km northwest of Stone Town, Unguja, Zanzibar, Tanzania. The island is around 800m long and 230 m wide at its broadest point. The island was once used as a prison for rebellious slaves in the 1860s and also functioned as Coral mine.

Adventure packed day
This tour offered it all! First we set off on a traditional Dhow boat to prison island where we learnt about the history of the island and saw the giant friendly tortoises. We then headed to a sandbank where we tasted a range of delicious fruit and had a seafood lunch. We also had a guided snorkelling session where we saw lots of tropical fish. Would highly recommend this tour and would definitely do it again.

An outstanding day. From the boat ride to swimming from a pristine white sand bar in turquoise waters it was glorious. The bbq lobster and seafood was exquisite. Prison island and the tortoises was also a great experience. Would highly recommend.
